停滞前線は、冷たい空気と暖かい空気の勢力がほぼ同じで、どちらも進むことができずに同じ場所に留まっている状態の前線だ。このため、前線は数日から一週間以上にわたって同じ場所に停滞し、その付近に雨雲がとどまる。梅雨前線や秋雨前線がこの停滞前線の典型的な例であり、同じ場所で長期間にわたる大雨を降らせることが多い。
A stationary front is a front where the forces of cold air and warm air are roughly equal, and neither is able to advance, causing the front to remain in the same location. Because of this, the front can stall for several days to over a week, with rain clouds lingering in the vicinity. The Baiu front and the autumn rain front are typical examples of a stationary front, often bringing prolonged heavy rain to the same area.
